In Arizona, the clothing allowance is $500 per person for a total of $1,000 for joint debtors. Keep in mind, that the value of your clothing is based on their resale value in their current condition – essentially how much you would get if you sold all your clothes at a yard sale. Unless you have some extravagant items, like designer gowns or suits, you will likely not be over the amount. While it may be difficult to ‘value’ your wardrobe in this fashion, there is little we, as your attorneys can do to help. Take a deep breath – open your closet and do your best at estimating how much you could get for all of it. If you do in fact have some designer items that would get a high resale value even though used, please contact us, so we can advise you on how to deal with this.
